Join us on Memorial Day for our first ANNUAL Sawmill Murph Challenge as we honor the legacy of U.S. Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy, who died heroically in the line of duty in Afghanistan on June 28th, 2005. This Hero workout is infinitely scalable based upon your skill level and experience, with options ranging from Individuals to Partners.

Brief starts at 8:30am, Monday, May 25th with first heat launching at 9am, with subsequent heats starting every 30 minutes thereafter until 11am (or sooner). Registration is FREE. All registered participants will receive a commemorative patch and you may pre-order a commemorative shirt for pickup on the day of the event during checkout. Shirt orders must be submitted by Monday, May 4th.

The Sawmill is an Official Host of The Murph Challenge, which directly supports the LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation.

100 pull-ups
200 push-ups
300 air squats
1-mile run

Partition the pull-ups, push-ups, and squats as needed. If you’ve got a 14/20-lb vest or body armor, wear it.

Intermediate

1-mile run
50 pull-ups
100 push-ups
150 air squats
1-mile run

Partition reps as desired. Start the second run no later than 25:00.

Beginner

800-meter run

Then, 10 rounds of:
5 ring rows
10 push-ups (from knees or with hands elevated on a box)
15 air squats

Then, 800-meter run. Start the second run no later than 20:00.

Partner

Both partners perform 1-mile run
100 pull-ups split as desired
200 push-ups split as desired
300 air squats split as desired

About Michael:

 Born May 7, 1976 – June 28, 2005, Michael was a United States Navy SEAL officer who was awarded the U.S. military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his actions during the War in Afghanistan. He was the first member of the United States Navy (USN) to receive the award since the Vietnam War.His other posthumous awards include the Silver Star Medaland the Purple Heart.

Michael Murphy was born and raised in Suffolk County, New York. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University with honors and dual degrees in political science and psychology. After college he accepted a commission in the USN and became a United States Navy SEAL in July 2002. After participating in several war on terrorism missions, he was killed on June 28, 2005, after his team was compromised and surrounded by Taliban forces near Asadabad, Afghanistan.

The USN ship USS Michael Murphy and several civilian and military buildings have been named in his honor.
